Computer design technology was used to “scale down” the short board shape to the
same volume (displacement) for a radical small wave summer board that works better
than anything else in less than perfect summer conditions.
The concave under the front foot enables quick jump up to trim speed, there’s plenty
of foam in the tail, with a fattish deck and full rail. It’s not too thick in the
centre ( less than 2 1/4” on average) but the flat deck maintains foam and paddling
thickness out towards the rail.
The Glyders real step away lies in the chine or bevel under the foward rail to about
two inches in front of the forward fins. The chine pulls in the width of the bottom
increasing speed by reducing the rail digging effect of a wider board.
The concave under the front foot stops with the chine just in front of the fins,
and turns into a “V” to allow for snap turns. The chine also gives a straighter line
in a rail turn and where it breaks off near the tail, it acts like a flyer without
the drag effect of the flyer.
Carbon Fibre is standard to protect the swallows and the hard tail rail from the
novice to the pro, the Spyder Glyder is the perfect all round small to medium wave
board.
